Dr. McKelvey provides therapy for a variety of concerns and questions that may impact adolescents and adults. These include:
- Anxiety
- Stress Management
- Chronic Pain
- Coping with Chronic Illness
- Coping with life events
- Perinatal mental health including coping with pregnancy, loss, postpartum health, and decisions regarding reproductive choices
- Sexual and gender identity
- Racial identity
- Preparing for Bariatric Surgery
- Weight management – note that I come from a health at every size approach with the goal of building healthy habits, rather than weight loss. This may not be a good fit for every individual.
When it comes to therapy, I look at the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative approach. I plan to work with you on developing goals and tools to help you succeed and improve your overall quality of life. I incorporate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness based approaches to help each person live their life to the fullest. I have experience working in outpatient mental health, outpatient medical settings, and inpatient medical hospitals, working with a variety of mental and physical health concerns and syndromes. These experiences have informed my approach to therapy by integrating evidence based interventions with the unique diversity of each individual and family I interact with.
I currently accept Aetna and Cigna in NJ and PA.
